VISTA Healthplans selected as sole health insurance carrier for Broward County Government
41,000 School Board of Broward County employees and dependents will have access to six enhanced health benefit plans
Sunrise, FL (December 29, 2008) – VISTA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Coventry Health Care, announced today that it has been awarded a three year contract to be the sole health insurance carrier for the School Board of Broward County (SBBC), effective January 1, 2009. This is the first time that SBBC has selected a single carrier since 1995. VISTA was awarded the contract through a competitive SBBC procurement process.
Through the contract, which includes the opportunity for three additional one year renewals, 41,000 eligible employees and dependents will have a choice of six health benefit options – four HMOs and two PPO plans, including a consumer driven option.
“We look forward to continuing our relationship with VISTA and working with them to provide excellent customer service and accessible health care services to our employees, dependents and retirees,” said Ron Weintraub, director of benefits for the School Board of Broward County."
SBBC employees will have a choice of two open access HMOs. With a network of over 8,500 providers, the HMO plans feature comprehensive health benefits and fixed out-of-pocket copays. In addition, VISTA is offering a unique HMO kids plan. The plan is designed exclusively for dependent children from birth to 21 years old or up to age 25, if enrolled as a full-time student. SBBC is the only employer that offers this innovative kids plan.
SBBC employees will also have a choice of two PPO plans. Both plans provide members with access to a national PPO network and referrals are not required for specialist visits. The consumer driven PPO combines the cost-saving incentives of a modern health benefits plan with the freedom of choice.
All six plans include programs and services to help members enjoy optimal health including a free gym membership at participating fitness clubs, wellness programs and tools and disease specific management and outreach services.
“VISTA is proud to provide health benefits to the county’s largest employer,” said Christopher Ciano, chief executive officer. “We are pleased that we were able to work within the School Board’s budget to offer a comprehensive package with many value-added programs and services.”
